The Schudy Chronicles

In Pursuit of Complete Honesty
on the Published Page

Doesn't any professor in America, Europe or the world feel capable of discussing the many principles, concepts and phenomena pertaining to the growth of the jaws and the treatment of malocclusion? We have been first discussing these anatomical concepts for the past forty years, and there has not been a single professor, that we have seen, who published anything pertaining to these important concepts, except Isaacson and Pancherz and their coworkers.

In any discussion with colleagues we would expect to be right in principle. If we were proven to be incorrect in some of the details, we would not feel terribly concerned, but would be glad to express appreciation and give full credit for the correction.

Here is a list of topics which need discussion:

1. The function of growth increments in the growth of the jaws and the treatment of malocclusion.

2. The advisability of the intrusion of lower incisors.

3. The scientific value of "Sella Horizontal."

4. The scientific logic of the "Great Divide."

5. The importance of the reduction of the gonion angle in the treatment of malocclusion.

6. What causes an increase in condylion/gnathion distance?

7. Is the sella horizontal/great divide combination a valid scientific basis for measuring the craniofacial complex?

8. What causes an increase in the nasion/menton distance?

9. Does the effective vertical condylar growth cause the chin to move downward?

10. What effect does horizontal condylar growth have on the position of the chin?

11. In a random sample of 95 subjects ages 6 to 17 years, the correlation coefficient between the vertical condylar growth and SNB was .1294 with a probability of .211 (no significance); while the correlation coefficient between horizontal posterior condylar growth and SNB was .3814 with a probability (0.000). How could this be true?

12. Do we need to select the scientifically most valid analysis of the craniofacial complex?

Again we challenge anyone in the world to show by objective evidence that any of these multiple concepts and principles are invalid and incorrect.
